The following are free products that are either included in our curriculum or recommended by clinical faculty.  There are links to each of there products on the Library PDA Software page.

Archimedes – Medical Calculators

      This is a free medical calculator from Skyscape.com that lets you quickly do things like Body Mass Index or Creatinine Clearance that MDs make mistakes doing in their heads.   
 

1. You download this from Skyscape www.skyscape.com but you will need to register first. Follow the instructions online to register and then search for Archimedes under Calculator software.
2. Download the file, and double-left click it to add it to your install folder.
3. Choose SD card for the destination and then HotSync.
4. It does not require a serial number or unlock code.

In order to download the Palm version you need to submit your HotSyncID. This is the same as your username. We create a product key from this information so it is important that you include the correct information in your registration. Do not use the serial number or any other information in the form as this will create a product key that is invalid for your PDA.

To find the username/HotSync associated with your device you can follow these three steps.

      

(Note: Your PDA does not need to be connected to your computer.)

1. Tap on the Home icon.  
2. Tap the HotSync icon.  
3. Find your username located in the top, right corner of your device.

Please enter this in the box below, select your PDA model and operating system from the drop down lists, and press the submit button: 
 

1. This will provide you with a product key that you will nee to use to activate the program. It will also provide you with a link to download GAYF. Download this file and double-left click it to add to your install folder.
2. Hotsync.
3. Once synced, tap the icon for GAYF and enter your HotSyncID and the Product key from the website.

Mobile Merck Medicus

This is free to all medical students and physicians. Contains the Pocket Guide to Diagnostic Tests and The Merck Manual, 17^th edition, as well as Reuters medical news and the abstracts from the latest edition of MEDLINE journals including the NEJM, BMJ, JAMA. Lancet, Annals of IM, and Medicine.

If you have not done so, register and get a userID and Password.

Find and click on the Mobile MerckMedicus tab

Download

Download the software and install it as you would any other to the memory card.  It syncs when you connect to update the Reuters News and MEDLINE journal abstracts.

5. Leave the web site open while you install.  It will ask you for a userID and Password during the install process to confirm identity.

      This free product produced by the Group on Immunization Education of the Society of Teachers in Family Medicine contains current immunizations schedules for children and adults in an attractive, easy to use graphical format.  It is available in both Palm and PocketPC versions.   
 

1. Go to http://www.immunizationed.org and click on SHOTS.
2. Pick Shots for 2005 for Palm.
3. Scroll down this page to find Downloads and Installation.  Click on the blue Shots.exe link.
4. Save the file to your PDA software folder.
5. Using My Computer, run the program.
6. Install this to your memory card.

 
 

USPSTF Interactive Tool 
     This Free tool created by the United States Preventive Services Task Force allows you to enter a patient’s age and gender and will show you the USPSTF recommendations for screening and counseling level A, B and if you want D for that individual.  Tap on the recommended screening for a complete explanation.

 
 

1. Go to http://pda.ahrq.gov and click on Interactive Preventive Services Selector
2. Under Application Downloads, pick Pocket PC v. 1.3.1, File Download pocketpc_setup.exe (678 KB).  Download this file to your software folder and then run it.
3. Install this software into your Main Memory.  It does not seem to work from the memory card.
